Belly Neutral position description

Belly Neutral position - static and dynamic mode bodyflying position. Symmetrical body form. It is possible to use that position for the flying on a low and middle wind speed. Wind blows mostly to the front side of the body.

In this position, the body remains as balanced as possible and without significant slopes, which allows you to fly with minimal effort and high stability.

Body position:

  • The body in this position is in a horizontal position relative to the airflow.
  • The back should be flat, slightly arched in the lower back.
  • The legs are slightly bent at the knees, while they should be relaxed and shoulder-width apart.

Hands position:

  • The arms should be extended forward or slightly to the sides, depending on preference. The palms are pointing downwards.

  • The elbows should be slightly bent and the hands should cling to the air flow.

  • This hand position helps to control speed and stability, and makes it easier to maneuver in the air.

Head and eyes:

  • The head is in a neutral position, not tilted forward or tilted back.
  • The gaze is directed straight ahead or slightly downwards.

The first time you enter to the windtunnel in a Belly Neutral position with instructor's help.

First you need to be stable in the static mode (to find your personal comfortable and relaxed body form in a range of Belly Neutral position which give you possibility to stay in one point).

At some point you can move in any trajectories without any visible change in position shape, using positions balance, but before you can use separate body parts for a different movements such as going:

- upward / downward;

- forward / backward;

- right / Left sideward;

- clockwise / anti-clockwise rotation.

Training Belly Neutral position

Training the Belly Neutral position is a fundamental BodyFlying skill, similar to learning how to ride a bicycle. There is no need special method, but there are two main approaches:

1. Training on a BodyFlying Machine (Model “Cube”)

• Using specialized simulators helps develop basic skills safely and effectively.
• This allows you to refine balance and control before entering the actual airflow.

2. Practicing in a Wind Tunnel with an Instructor

• The instructor corrects body position and ensures safety.
• Helps prevent collisions with the glass and net.
• The learning process happens naturally—it’s just about finding the right balance.

This balance comes quite quickly, so mastering the Belly Neutral position is not particularly challenging.

Using Belly Neutral position

Body left/right direction transits between Belly Neutral and a little Back Neutral positions. When you have mastered flying on your back and on your belly, you can perform a transit from belly to back and back to belly. Pay attention to how I do it. When transitioning from belly to back, I use my hand - I lead with it, and my body follows. When I’m on my back, I start with my leg, and my whole body follows its movement.

However, this is not the only way to do it. This is just one of the ways you can perform this transit.
